Notes for Merari:

His name in Hebrew is: מררי Merârîy (mer-aw-ree’) Strongs #:4847; bitter.

There is little known of Merari although he was not enslaved into Egyptian service like his cousins were since all the Levites knew of the cunning of the Egyptians before the enslavement of the Israelites began.  (1)

Notes of Jaaziah:

Her name in Hebrew is: יעזיהו Ya’ãzîyâhû (yah-az-ee-yaw’-hoo) Strongs #: 3269; Emboldened of Yah.

It is not clear if Jaaziah is actually the wife of Merari or not, but the phrase: “The sons of Merari by Jaaziah” (2) would signify that she would be the mother of Beno, Shoham, Zaccur and Ibri and not Mahali and Mashi.

In the Greek Septuagint LXX she is known as Ozia, which sounds more feminine than Jaaziah.

Notes for Beno:

His name in Hebrew is: בן Bên (bane) Strongs #: 1121; a son.

Beno is only mentioned twice in Scripture (I Chron, 24:26, 27) although he is not even mentioned in the Septuagint LXX.

Notes Shoham:

His name in Hebrew is: שהם Shôham (sho’-ham) Strongs #: 7719; to blanch; a {gem} probably the beryl (from its pale green color): - onyx.

Only mentioned once.  (I Chron. 24:27)  Nothing more is known.

Notes for Zaccur:

His name in Hebrew is: זכור Zakkûr (zak-koor’) Strongs #: 2139; mindful.

Only mentioned once.  (I Chron. 24:27)  Nothing more is known.

Notes for Ibri:

His name in Hebrew is: עברי ‘Ibrîy (ib-ree’) Strongs #: 5681; descendant of Eber.

Only mentioned once.  (I Chron. 24:27)  Nothing more is known.
