Notes for Seir:
His name in Hebrew is: שעיר Sê’îr (say-eer’) Strongs #8165; rough.
All that is known of Seir is that he found a valley near Mt. Paran where he built
a city and named it after himself. The land in that area became known as the Land
of Seir. (1)
The Land of Seir also became known as Edom (2), which was a name that his 3rd cousin
(8 times removed) picked up. Esau was inclined to dwell in the land, and became
known as Esau Edom.
While Esau was hunting in Seir’s land, Esau married his granddaughter, Aholibama.
It may not be probable if Seir was still living at the time of Esau’s battle, but
Esau called together 340 men of Seir’s descendants to go to battle against Esau’s
brother Jacob. (4)
